"There is so much writing in English on Japanese cinema that can't be accepted at face value — not because the writers are careless, but because the differences in culture and language are just too intricate. When I see August Ragone's name on a piece of writing, it gives me permission to place my faith in it completely. Among Japanese fantasy film historians, he's the best working in English." —Tim Lucas, Video Watchdog

August, is there any word on how this reboot is being received in Japan or how well the BD/DVDs are selling?

Mathetes,
While I don't have exact numbers, let's just say it's been a complete success, so far. As pre-orders, the BD/DVDs were in the Top Ten on Amazon for months, and now that the first volume is out, the sales are still strong. Vol. 1 is currently at #12 in Anime BD sales and #14 in Anime DVD sales.

The first theatrical release was a success, and the BDs sold out in three-out-of-ten theaters over the opening weekend, and all ten were sold out in as many days. Also, critical reaction has been extremely positive, and as far as I'm concerned, so far, this is the best possible remake we could have hoped for.

Cheers,
August
